Overview
Looking back on my journey to becoming a Muslim chaplain, I now see that every event in my life was an essential step towards who I am today. At the time, however, it was challenging to comprehend why life unfolded the way it did. My schooling and academic experiences, while valuable in their own right, did not equip me with the tools to discern the deeper meaning behind these events. I lacked the criteria to fully grasp how life was apportioned to me and to read the signs it presented.
For me, true literacy has come to mean looking beyond the material world. This deeper understanding only emerged much later in life when I became aware of my own ephemerality, my transience, and my utter dependence on the Divine. It was through accepting my role as a servant of the Creator of the Universe that I found comfort in God’s compassion and mercy. This realization inspired me to guide others who are lost, shepherding them back to the right path.
